The Beginning of the New Bazaar Era

The “Bazaar” mentioned in this title is the one mentioned by American Eric S. Raymond in this book“the Cathedral and the Bazaar” . As the greatest open source project from the 1990s, Linux has set a model for the “Bazaar”. With the rapid development of technical architecture, we are still far from the free software world, at least SaaS can not solve the current contradictions and needs. Blockchain is no longer a technology, but needs to match the corresponding culture. We can clearly recognize that the blockchain is more in line with the “bazaar” culture. its parallel, reciprocal, and flat development mode and loose, free structure are like a chaotic bazaar. The mobile phone systems we currently use include the Android system, and the iOS system first came from an open source architecture. “The hacker culture and its success are important to provide a good research example to the study of basic issues such as human motivation, work organization, the future of professionalism, corporate form, etc., and how these changes and evolve in the post-scarce economy era with abundant information in the 21st century”, “hacker”, it must be translated as “heike”, here “hacker” refers to its original meaning, that is, those who are obsessed with technology and full of talents and ideals (cracker suspected of computer crime is translated as “Hacker”)”.

We see that the most talented programmers in the world are representatives of hacker culture, and have built a miracle of the software industry with the smallest team in the history. Linus Torvalds is an outstanding representative, so is John D. Carmack (the developer of the game engine “Doom” and “Quake”), both of them admire the “Bazaar” culture. As the earliest advocates of open source software, they gained wealth and respect, and their demonstration has influenced generations of programmers. But what needs to be vigilant is that it does not mean that this is the mainstream form. Our software industry is still in volume. When we need the best software, we have to buy so-called commodity software or services. Oracle is an outstanding representative of anti-open source software,he believes that open source will lead to higher costs and bring software with unsatisfactory security performance and incomplete functions. Although Oracle spares no effort to oppose open source, our generation do use various open source software with high-quality code. The high quality of open source essentially comes from programmers’ pursuit of original high standards for code, and we can also see that software companies that produce the most profitable software companies try their best to adopt a “bazaar” culture. In addition to providing an individual’s reputation in the team, we also need to consider economic strength. The incompleteness of the open source system that has been criticized is also a problem to be solved in this new bazaar era.

After a long effort, we still haven’t changed the involvement of the software industry, especially the medical industry software that I am more familiar with, because it involves user privacy and security, which is the next focus, and commercial software may be more likely to be hide dirt. Through long-term observations, we have found commercial software is actually very fragile, because there is no good “anti-fragility model” at all. Compared with safety performance, the implementation of basic functions is the priority for in-volume development. In order to solve this problem, we need to establish a model of bazaar culture in the medical industry, but this bazaar culture is not like the “bazaar” of the previous generation. We call it the “new bazaar era”. In the new bazaar era, we have a brand new incentive structure, which is driven by the blockchain, including our incentive model, the donors network. The “consensus principle” is higher than the “command and discipline”, this is what the donors network will do. Each individual in the system establishes an order with self-correction capabilities, which is more subtle and efficient than any centralized planning. The new bazaar era not only contains the passionate dreams of our new generation of programmers, but also has a more pragmatic incentive strategy. In any case, we believe that this generation of programmers will surpass previous generations of programmers and will bring more changes to the world.

We need some “fun” things. This is my life, and it will change our lifestyle. We are willing to share these “fun” things so that more talented people can participate and encourage and motivate each other. The NFT of reputation resources will have a boosting effect in the culture of the new bazaar, which is also a scenario we will consider building. The gift culture in the new bazaar era is a manifestation of software evolution. In the era of material scarcity, we will need more classes and orders, but now it is an era of material abundance, and it is difficult to dig into the material realm to keep us happy. People tend to make themselves unhappy, and the construction of the spiritual realm has not been systematically mentioned. We may consider competition, quotations, plans, and customer experience all day. When these things are preached in accordance with the so-called “wolf-like” culture and are overwhelming, we often feel nauseated because of excessive pressure. We urgently need to change our mindset , face life and work in a relaxed way. The software copyright and NFT in the reputation system of the donors network can also be closely related. Use your own reputation to place bets without worrying that our reputation will be infringed. In a distributed business architecture, we know what benefits we should strive for and how to add value to these benefits. Then, it’s time to do things with the right attitude.

“If you have the right attitude, interesting things are on the way.”
